Still Agonizing the Dead - Interview with REVEREND KRISS HADES - Nachthymnen 2024
The following is an interview conducted in late 2024 with absolute psychopath Rev. Kriss Hades (Sadistik Exekution, RKH) for issue #2 of Nachthymnen Mag. As Nacht has laid the project to rest, both he and RKH have given me permission to post the interview on Crypt's Burden. Thanks to RKH for the answers and of course the evil, messed up musik - Rusty
1. [Nacht] Of all the album covers you’ve created, “Atavism” by CRUCIFORM is my favorite. What was the inspiration behind this piece? Do you still create visual art?
The artwork was created specifically for the band while I was working on live SADISTIK EXEKUTION shows and recordings in Sydney. I helped many bands with artwork and also making magazine articles and advice or inspiration, influence directly or indirectly. The artwork in question was repainted for a re-release and is similar to the original as I overpainted the artwork onto the existing piece. I also designed the simple type logo with spikes. The inspiration was the title of the album and the concepts implied of human change or metamorphosis with machine or spirit using the crucifix as a device and the death of consciousness and the psychedelic type experience in finality. I continue to create visual art that is combined with the sound and sculpture guitar instruments.
2. [Nacht] Your solo project sounds unlike any music I’ve ever heard. What artists influenced it? How was the reception from SADISTIK EXEKUTION fans?
The originality came from separating myself from what was being made and an ambition to describe the other world. The SADISTIK EXEKUTION audience was receptive as the band was advanced in style of death metal doing something unhinged compared to others. The influence I had on the music world was profound with all the imitations that flew around the world. I was intending that and also was surprised by how definite it was and has become. Both SUNN O))) and SLEEP TOKEN are Hades Kult disciples for examples of direct and indirect influence of RKH.
3. [Nacht] It’s been almost twenty years since the release of “Paganini, Bloodlust, Static Age”. Any chance you will record more music in this style?
Yes yes. I have many old and new recordings made that could be released. There are many early recordings including my keyboard recordings from before SADISTIK EXEKUTION. I would perform minimal horror type keyboards very dark or small and peculiar places mostly and make recordings 70s early 80s.
4. [Nacht] “Meditation of the Midnight Candle Practice” was repressed on CD & cassette last year. Why was this demo chosen for repress over your following two releases? Do you know how many copies were sold? How many copies were originally pressed in 1991?
HEADSPLIT RECORDS made this offer know all the details. They also commissioned an artwork of original design by myself. A RKH US tour was also discussed. The original tape, a simple compilation of recordings from decades, was one singular cassette that was passed to William Rainbird who tape traded to the underground metal tape trading arena.
5. [Nacht] Thoughts on Rok’s and Dave Slave’s solo projects?
There also was Sloth solo recordings (3). I appreciate the effort. I didn’t like the direction as I was focused on SADISTIK EXEKUTION and saw these things as a distraction and worthless at the time, interesting oddities that add to the weirdness of SADISTIK EXEKUTION.. eventually I was forced to return to what I was doing before doing live solo shows, more advanced that in the previous decades of old established the image definitely to a new audience in the 1990s. The RKH performance combined visual displays via video projection and the invisible wraith visage installations of darkness. With certain individuals it created a panic and some serious obsession from the audience. Because of the fame that SADISTIK EXEKUTION brought to the stage the local and world wide effect was immediately evident with the reflections presented. The DECIUS release “Wind of Orion” is to be released on vinyl near future on GOATOWAREX. I made the “K.A.O.S.” SADISTIK EXEKUTION final recording as a decently fukked and final funeral … and … I also have a killer live recording as the last recording I made.. “Battered to Buggery” .. a possible title. Maybe “Fukk you all Die”.
6. [Nacht] In BARDO METHODOLOGY #8, you stated that aliens had pulled you apart atomically. How many experiences have you had with extraterrestrials? Can you describe them?
Human spectrum of detection is limited , x-ray and ultrasonics are inperceivable. The more one can detect the more to be detectable and the more things become hidden. Pan dimensional interactions can be a reality, “A Dangerous Meeting” is a MERCYFUL FATE song from “Don’t Break the Oath” about contacting entities outside the usual human experience.. or is it actually usual ? All historical facts could be fantasies - waking life, imagination, dreams and nightmares, hallucinations (drug induced psychosis or schizophrenia and biological trauma).
As we study microscopic entities it’s plausible the existence of things being of relative situation. Imagine “people” profoundly different that their appearance would cause instant insanity, extro panik I call it, and psychological animosity that can annihilate the unexpecting. The other things would appear as relatively normal safe things that are appealing then changing into other stuff. Cats then to weird kats then to the Giger top hat skull worm man thing from the H R Giger panting “Satan 1” ( used on CELTIC FROST “To Mega Theron” album cover) , that’s probably a nightmare to some.. by that stage your ready for accepting anything.. anyway to communicate with these bits of perplexing phantasmagoria - being in the right or wrong place, or accessing an altered state may be necessary, a potentially disastrous endeavour. Both an afterlife reality or a complete negation of existence are equally interesting.
7. [Nacht] Do you have any memories or thoughts about the following bands? What are some other great Australian death metal bands worth mentioning?
